Atanas Goranov is a Managing Director in the Investments Department of the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, one of the largest Mutual Insurance Companies in the USA. Its Investments Department is managing about $50BB of insurance company and mutual funds assets. Atanas Goranov is in charge of derivative risk management within the investment portfolios. Mr Goranov is also a General Securities Principal of Guardian Investor Services, LLC.
Prior to Guardian Life, Atanas Goranov worked for almost 15 years for the General Electric Company in its GE Asset Management and GE Capital businesses. His most recent role was Vice President, Risk Management at GE Asset Management, managing over $180BB of assets invested in public and private equities, fixed income, real estate and hedge funds around the world. There he led the investment risk management team for Public Equities and Fixed Income for the Firm. Atanas Goranov held various role of increasing responsibility for over ten years in the area of investment risk management at GEAM. His prior assignments in GE included acquisitions and dispositions of commercial banks, investment banks, asset management firms and insurance firms. Prior to GE, Atanas Goranov worked for the World Bank in Washington DC, USA and before then as a trader for the trading company Isotimpex.
Atanas Goranov is a graduate of the General Electric's Global Leadership Development Program which included Wharton and Harvard Business School graduate classes. He also holds an MBA degree from the American University in Washington DC. Before that he graduated "Cum Laude" from Moscow State Institute of International Relations with a Diploma in Economics, major International Economic Relations.
Atanas Goranov is a member of the CFA Institute, The Global Association of Risk Professionals, The Professional Risk Managers International Association, The Beta, Gamma Sigma Society and the New York Society of Security Analysts. He is also a member of the Bulgarian City Club in London and co-founder of the Bulgarian Wall Street Club in New York.
